Temple-hopping in Vrindavan

Madhu

Vrindavan is where Lord Krishna is said to have spent his childhood. It’s just about 11km east of Mathura so today morning we hired an auto-rickshaw for a visit. For Rs.250 the auto-driver agreed to drive us to Vrindavan, take us to all the famous temples there, wait and then bring us back to the hotel; it sounded like a good deal. LP had listed a few temples with a brief description of each. Buoyed by the previous evening’s great visit to the Janmabhoomi, we assumed that they would all be worth visiting so we sat back looking forward to a great temple-hopping experience…

Photo Post : Vishram Ghat (Mathura)

Madhu

Vishram Ghat is the most important ghat on the banks of Yamuna River in Mathura. According to Hindu mythology, it was here that Lord Krishna rested after a long battle fought to kill his evil uncle Kamsa. The name of the ghat is derived from this particular incidence. The word ‘vishram’ means ‘rest’.

Mathura Hotel/Restaurant Review (Brijwasi Royal)

Madhu

Hotel Brijwasi Royal, Station Rd, Mathura

Hotel Brijwasi Royal is a 3-star hotel and is probably one of the nicer ones in town, as we really didn’t see many other upscale hotels. Moreover, they keep getting visits from local dignitaries i.e. people who ride in govt vehicles and are very important-looking :) . So I’m quite certain this is ‘the’ place to be in Mathura. And the hotel’s quite nice too. The reception staff is friendly and efficient. Our room had a nice, comfortable bed, with ample room around it, air-conditioning and relatively good fixtures.

City of the Taj

Madhu

Monday night we used www.makemytrip.comto book our Tuesday’s journey from Delhi to Agra. Their new ‘rail’ section is really neat and it was very easy to make the bookings – they only charged Rs.20 as the booking fee for both tickets. The train was Ernakulam Millenium Express, which starts from the Nizammuddin station in Delhi at 5:55am and gets to Agra Cantonment by 9:35am. We woke up early, called for a Meru cab at 4:15am, which got us to the station by 5:15am.
