Chandigarh Hotels : Hotel Akashdeep
We got to Chandigarh on a Friday when the city was bursting at its seams with visitors. We think it was because of the IPL game that was being played that night in neighboring Mohali. We couldn’t find vacancies at the first couple of places we called. Hotel Akashdeep was listed as a budget hotel in Lonely Planet and wasn’t really our first choice. But luckily, they had an air-conditioned double-room available and we couldn’t have asked for more.
Located in Sector 22, the heart of Chandigarh, Hotel Akashdeep is ideally situated. It sits above the sector’s shopping complex, occupying the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors. A narrow doorway, amidst shops, opens up to a flight of steps that lead to the hotel’s reception desk, which remains open late into the night. The sights of Chandigarh were within easy reach from here and we were able to flag down cycle rickshaws right in front of the hotel.
Our double-room was modestly-sized with a couple of chairs, an armoire, a color TV with cable, and a double-bed. The bathroom, though small, was functional with a hot water geyser. Room service was prompt and edible.
Overall, Hotel Akashdeep is quite a good budget option. For the price, the room was very comfortable and the location was ideal.
