These caves were carved out of a 2km long cliff-face, running north-south. The Jain temples are at the northern end, the Hindu caves and temples in the center and finally the Buddhist ones at the southern end.

The Aurangabad caves are located on Sihaychal hills running from east to west, about 2 km from the Bibi-ka-Maqbara. In all there are ten Buddhist Caves.
