Bhola Restaurant is a street-side restaurant in its true sense; all seats are on the pavement 🙂 while the kitchen and pantry is indoors in a narrow, rectangular room.

One is a more basic guesthouse right in the center of the village market, while the other, Hotel Shri Mahant, is a newer structure west of the village chowk, off the road that leads to Laxmi Narayan temple.

We woke up early in order to go see Orchha’s birds that Shyamlal promised would show up for feeding at the cenotaphs. On a normal day, waking up at 7:30am wouldn’t be termed as ‘waking up early’.

The Laxmi Narayan Temple in Orchha exhibits an unique style of architecture – a mix of fort and temple styles. The interior walls are elaborately decorated with mural paintings based on mythological themes.

Orcha Palace Grounds includes the monuments around the main palace – These include Dauji ki Kothi, Himma Hamir ki Kothi, Raj Praveen Mahal, and more.

Saket Ramayan Kala Sangrahalaya has a wide variety of Ramayan themed artwork in various tribal art styles. This museum was established by Kapil Tiwari, director of the Adivasi Lok Kala Academy.

The word Orchha literally means ‘hidden’. This area was named so because it was completely covered in forests before being developed.

The Sound and Light show at the Orchha Fort/Palace Complex takes place from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm in English and from 8:45 pm to 9:45 pm in Hindi. It covers the history of Orchha and its glory in an interesting audio visual medium.

Chaturbhuj Temple was built by Raja Madhukar between the years 1558 and 1573. Chaturbhuj (means four-armed), is dedicated to the four-armed deity. The temple has plenty of light and space inside, a feature unusual for a Hindu temple.
