Nek Chand Rock Garden : One man’s waste is another man’s treasure
Spread over an area of forty acres, Nek Chand Rock Garden, is built with recycled industrial & home materials.
Wall covered with discarded electrical parts
This garden was started secretly in his spare time by Nek Chand, a government official.
Nek Chand started working on the garden in 1957 and it was finally discovered by the local authorities in 1975. By then, it had grown into a 12 acre rock garden.
Discarded pots and electrical parts
It is now being run by the Rock Garden Society.
Nek Chand’s philosophy of recycling long before it was trendy, has propelled him onto the global art scene.
Inspiration from Gaudi?
