Khardung La Pass
Khardung La Pass with an elevation of 5359 m is the world’s highest motorable mountain pass.
It is the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys.
This used to be a major caravan route from Leh to Kashgar in Central Asia.
On top of the ‘world’
Maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, this pass is of very high strategic importance to India as it is used to carry essential supplies to Siachen.
