We are selling!

Wow, a lot happened over the last week. Our realtor convinced us that the weekend of July 4th and 5th was the best time to open the house up for viewing by potential buyers, aka ‘open house’. We agreed but also realized that we had less than a week to prepare. The realtor seemed confident of pulling it off, so we took the plunge and signed the ‘listing agreement’ to put the house on the market asap.

We spent last weekend cleaning out our cabinets and closets, and moving some of our furniture to the garage. That gave our realtor enough space to ‘stage’ the home professionally. And gosh what a difference that has made! Our home looks bigger, brighter and more beautiful than ever. Tomorrow, July 1st, it will be officially listed on the real estate websites as a ‘for sale’ property. And then the viewing will begin…

At times, it’s still hard to believe that all this is really happening. Somewhere, deep inside me, I guess I was prepared for, or almost expecting, a last minute pull out – after all this is a huge move. The fact that we’ve taken the most important step of our travel preparation – putting the house up for sale – makes me very proud of us.

Once the house sells, we’ll need to move into a rental apt for a few months until we are actually ready to quit and leave. Finding a decent apt and moving there will be another big headache. But once that’s done, we’ll probably have a lot of time to sit back and truly concentrate on travel planning – I’m so looking forward to that!

So now the entire family (including my brother) are up-to-date with our plans. And so far they’ve all been super supportive. Over the last weekend, we also told our neighbors and close friends of our plans. Needless to say, all of them were shocked with our plan to sell. Most of them seemed to understand, though. They were happy for us and thought that taking time off to travel was the best thing ever.

Well, hopefully my next post will be that of the house being SOLD  – fingers crossed!
