Tsug-La-Khang complex was built under the supervision of the 14th Dalai Lama with strict instructions not to disturb nature in any way. It overlooks a large, shaded square, beyond which stands the Dalai Lama’s residence.

Although the name didn’t sound too appealing to me, Hotel Yamini, turned out to be a great stay option in Palampur. Located in the heart of town, this 6-storied building has updated rooms.

Tea was introduced to Kangra in 1849 by Dr. Jameson, a botanist from Peshawar, who found the soil and weather conditions in to be apt for tea cultivation.

The tour ended with the opportunity to hold and smell the final products – different grades or qualities of tea. Apparently all of their produce is sent to Calcutta from where it gets distributed around the country; fascinating!
Buddhist temples of Palampur
Bir has a sizeable Tibetan population with a fantastic Buddhist temple in the center. We entered its main gate and crossed a small courtyard, which had a half-open handicrafts store to the left.
Palyul Choekhorling Monastery
The Palyul Choekhorling Monastery, home to about 170 monks, was established in 1980 by Venerable Rigo Tulku Rinpoche. This monastery is also known as Nyingmapa Buddhist Monastery.
