Badami Hotels : Hotel Mayura Chalukya
Badami is a smallish town with hardly any hotels. There were a few near the bus stand but they were run-down and basic, while another was over-priced! So we finally got to the Karnataka Tourism Dept’s Hotel Mayura Chalukya without any expectations.
However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that for Rs.832 per night (don’t ask where they get that number from!) the rooms (non-air-conditioned) were not too shabby and on the contrary, quite comfortable!
The hotel is located about a kilometer from the main bus stand and therefore, away from all the chaos. It is a large property, with several buildings clustered behind the main one, which houses the reception area and a restaurant. The restaurant is quite handy, as there are no eateries nearby.
Our large double-room had a comfortable queen bed, a new Ikea-style wardrobe, TV with cable and a writing desk with chair. The bathroom needs some updating but the fixtures worked and most importantly, hot water was available throughout the day.
The staff at the hotel was quite friendly and that made the stay more relaxed. Overall, this hotel is an excellent value-for-money option in Badami!
