Ginger Hotel, Nasik

Ginger Hotel

We’d heard about Ginger hotels thru family and knew that they were a chain of budget hotels with basic but modern utilities. They are owned and managed by Tata, one of India’s biggest brand names. We decided to give their Nasik hotel a try and were quite impressed with it.

Ginger hotels have a self-service model, which means that there is no bellboy or room service (food or laundry). Luggage carts are provided to lug our own luggage to the rooms. They have an onsite cafe where we ate all our breakfasts (included in the cost of the room) and where other meals can be had as well. Food can also be ordered in from nearby restaurants, menu cards for which are provided in the room. But, to avoid cleanup and odors, the food is delivered to the cafe and not to the room; it must be eaten in the cafe. For laundry, there is a pickup and drop-off location next to the reception desk. For ironing, an ironing board and iron are provided in a common area on each floor. The same common area houses a vending machine for water and other soft drinks. All this may sound like limitations but they most certainly are not. In fact, they made our stay quite hassle-free.

Our air-conditioned room had modern, comfortable furniture and furnishings. There was a study table, chair, wall-mounted LCD TV, full-length mirror and an extremely comfortable double-bed. The bathroom, though compact, was very nice with modern plumbing and fixtures, and liquid soap dispensers near the basin and the shower.

Most Ginger Hotels are located near major highways just outside the city. The Nasik one too was away from the main city center, on the highway to Trimbakeshwar. There were not many restaurants or other amenities within walking distance but we always found auto-rickshaws just outside the gate to take us around.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Ginger Hotel. It was probably the nicest budget hotel we’ve stayed at in India.
