Hotel Lotus Lake
Hotel Lotus Lake is a modest hotel with budget prices and a great location. It is right by the entrance to 
Rewalsar Lake and has rooms overlooking it. Madhu had called in advance and booked our stay for 2 nights. We had heard that it is very popular in the area and finding accommodation may be difficult; I guess we were lucky! The reviews in guidebooks were good and we weren’t disappointed.
Our double-room overlooked the lake and was quite large and airy for Rs.600 a night. It had tiled flooring, which was great as the dirty carpets in some budget hotels are terribly annoying. Apart from a color TV with cable, there was also an armoire, a vanity mirror with desk and chair, a low shelf for additional storage and 2 chairs with a coffee table; an extremely comfortable room. The bathroom was okay too with a large hot water geyser.
Rewalsar has plenty of little food stalls that serve typical Tibetan dishes such as Thukpa, Momos, etc. They are cheap and quick. We tried a couple of them on our first day in Rewalsar. The next day, though, we ate at Lotus Lake and found the food to be of better quality. And it was just slightly more expensive than street food. The service was a tad slow and was provided by young, unsmiling faces who went about their jobs diligently.
Since the lake is not very large, any hotel in its vicinity would have been a convenient base to explore the area. However, apart from Lotus Lake and HPTDC’s Tourist Inn, there don’t seem to be any other proper hotels in the area. The rest are either guesthouses or the dorms within the monasteries and gurudwara where stay can be very cheap. But for a little more, Hotel Lotus Lake is definitely a great option in Rewalsar Lake.
