Jaisalmer Camel Safari

Camel Safaris are an unique way to explore the beautiful stretches of the Thar Desert. The starting point of the Jaisalmer Camel Safari was about 50 odd kilometers from Jaisalmer town.

Along the road we spotted couple of Chinkaras (Gazella Bennettii). This gazelle subspecies lives in grasslands and desert areas in India, Bangladesh and parts of Iran and Pakistan.

Most of the camel safaris start and end at this village.

We stopped for lunch around noon and spent the rest of the afternoon lazing under a tree.

Kaluram, our guide, tied the fore legs of the camels and set them off to graze in the surrounding dunes.

Riding on camels can take a toll on your thighs. It is recommended to take frequent breaks so that that you can stretch and relax the muscles.

Post lunch we spotted a couple of peacocks in the nearby shrubs.

At around 4 PM, Kaluram went to round up the camels.

Longer safaris give you an opportunity to experience the more remote areas.

It is quite an experience to spend the night under the stars. On clear nights one can spot shooting stars!
