Jaisalmer Havelis

Jaisalmer Havelis are beautiful sandstone havelis (mansions) built by the city’s wealthy merchants.

Nathmal Haveli

This haveli was commissioned to serve as the residence of Diwan Mohata Nathmal, the then Prime Minister of Jaisalmer.

This was designed and built by two brothers (Hathi and Lalu) – one of whom carved the left side and the other the right. Since the descendants still live here, you may not be able to venture beyond their ground floor ‘over priced’ shop.

Patwon ki Haveli

This haveli is actually a group of five different houses within a large courtyard, built by Guman Chand for his five sons.

Salam Singh ki Haveli

This 300 year old Haveli is still being used by the descendants of Salam Singh, a former prime minister of the state of Jaisalmer.

Sadly the haveli has not been maintained and as a result it is slowly falling apart. An old crumbling staircase leads up to the Moti Mahal.
