Ladakh Travel : Suru Valley
Rangdum (3657m) is located in an isolated region of the Suru valley. It is about 130 Kms SE of Kargil.
This village is completely isolated from the rest of the world during the winter months.
The villagers are descendants of the monastery’s agricultural serf-tenants, and do not own any land.
The area around Rangdum is not suitable for agriculture. As a result, the villagers survive on meat, and good old Maggi!
Rangdum Gompa
The Rangdum Gompa, located about 5kms from the village, was founded in the 18th century.

The Gompa is perched picturesquely atop a centrally rising hillock.
This gompa belongs to the Gelukpa order.
It serves as the residence for approximately 40 monks.
It is known for its rich collection of Tibetan relics.
