Hotel Samrat International, Mt. Abu

Mt Abu Hotels : Hotel Samrat International

Lonely Planet listed Hotel Samrat International as a good mid-range option in the heart of town. When we got there we were happy to see a well-decorated lobby and courteous staff. The rooms are built in a haphazard manner around and above the lobby area, but the building seemed newly built/renovated with marble flooring and spacious floorplans.

Our double-room was large with the best bathroom we’ve had over the last few weeks. It was nicely sized, with decorative marble tiles on the walls, new fixtures and separate areas for the commode and shower, which, trust me, is hard to find in India’s mid-range hotels. Hot water is available only for a few hours in the morning and then later in the evening but this wasn’t really a problem. At Rs.15, for washing and ironing of a shirt, laundry service was well-priced and efficient too.

The hotel gave us a 10% discount coupon for the restaurant attached to them, but with a name like Hollywood Bollywood we weren’t really inspired to visit it. We ordered room service for breakfast and was surprised when Idly Sambar (was missing home food) turned out be quite nice!

Overall, the two-night stay at Samrat International was quite comfortable. As it’s large and commercial, it doesn’t quite have the warmth and personal touch that smaller, family-run hotels offer. But we would definitely recommend it as a good mid-range, short-stay option in Mount Abu.
