Orchha Restaurants

Orchha is really just a small village with a fantastic past. It’s only over the past few years that it has got a lot of tourist attention. And this is evident in the fact that it hardly has any restaurants. Most hotels and guesthouses in the area offer dining facilities and I’m sure most visitors opt for this.

From the chowk, the road that leads to the palace complex is lined with 3 restaurants. Two of them are little too close to a public urinal for our sensibility  so Madhu and I avoided them at all costs. The 3rd restaurant was where we ate almost all our meals, except for the occasional visits to roadside stalls for tea and samosas  and one meal at our hotel.

Bhola Restaurant

Address: Jehangir Mahal Rd, Orchha

This is a street-side restaurant in its true sense; all seats are on the pavement  while the kitchen and pantry is indoors in a narrow, rectangular room. It is a great place for people-watching as it is in a corner of the village chowk, on a road that leads to the palace complex. So we always enjoyed eating here and looking across at the hustle-bustle of the chowk.

Their menu consists of all the usual stuff including Korean and Dutch dishes . We, of course, stuck to the Indian fare and tried chai, omelets, pakodas and thalis. They were all quite good. At Rs.70 each, the thalis were good value for money.

The only problem, if you can call it that, was the stray dogs that begged for food by the tables. We loved having them around (until they got too close) but I’m sure canine-phobic people might find this a little annoying.
