Pelling Hotels : Hotel Hung Ree

We checked out quite a few hotels in Upper Pelling before walking into Hotel Hung Ree. The others were grossly overpriced for what they were offering (especially the ones recommended by guidebooks!), in spite of being old and practically empty. Hung Ree’s manager struck us as a decent chap who was friendly and made us feel welcome immediately!

Our double-room was large with everything that we needed for a comfortable stay including carpeted floors, which is a necessity in the cold winters. Room at Hung Ree Hotel When we checked in the TV in the room suddenly stopped functioning. On informing the reception, the unit was immediately changed with another that worked well. Surprisingly, many of the popular channels were available, which was not expected in a village like Pelling. A solar-charged bulb ensured that there was light in the room even during the electricity outages in the evenings. The bathroom was of a nice size too with working fixtures View Kanchenjunga from our room and a large hot-water geyser. But the room’s most important feature was the view of Kanchenjunga peak from its balcony – it was absolutely mind-blowing!

We stayed in Hung Ree for 6 nights and were most impressed by the staff that managed the hotel’s reception desk, room cleaning and room service. They were always extremely courteous with the warmest smiles ever, never complaining about our innumerable demands of black tea. They made our stay extremely comfortable!
