Auroville
Auroville, an experimental township in the Viluppuram district of Tamil Nadu, was founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa and designed by architect Roger Anger. The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity.

The township is now under the control of Government of India, following a conflict between Aurovilians and the Sri Aurobindo Society.
On the way to Maitrimandir
Auroville aims to be an universal town where men and women of all countries can live in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, politics and nationalities.
The current population is around 2000, comprising of men and women from 44 countries.
Matrimandir
The Matrimandir, a structure of spiritual significance for practitioners of Integral Yoga, is situated at the center of Auroville. It took 37 years to build and is in the form of a huge sphere covered with golden discs.
