Restaurant Reviews, Ahmedabad

Kalapi Restaurant>

Opposite Advance Cinema, Lal Darwaja, Ahmedabad, Gujarat 380001

Our hotel concierge suggested this restaurant as a good veg restaurant that’s close by. And it was quite good. It’s a small restaurant with just about 10 to 12 tables. We ordered a Paneer Bhurji, Tandoori rotis and a raita – they were all quite good. I ordered a sweet lassi, which was maybe a little too sweet. The dishes were priced reasonably as well. We noticed that most of the other patrons were ordering South Indian dishes – maybe Kalapi is famous for their South Indian fare. Overall a good place to eat if you are in the area – not necessarily one that you would particularly go hunting to eat at.

Hotel ZK

Opposite Relief Cinema, Relief Road, Ahmedabad, Gujarat 380001

It has a suspicious sounding name and is in the middle of the chaotic Relief road. So we were a little hesitant to try it. But LP had recommended it as a great place to try non-veg food and it was within walking distance of our hotel. So we went there for dinner and it was fantastic! We ordered Chicken fry and Liver fry with Tandoori Rotis. It was spicy as hell and quite oily – but man, did it taste good! The place was packed with other LP readers and local families – it seemed quite popular … and rightly so. Given a chance, we will definitely go back!

Dinner Bell

Akshar Arcade, Memnagar, opp Memnagar Fire Station, Ahmedabad, Gujarat 380013

For some reason, life in Ahmedabad city comes to a stand-still on Sundays – most stores and restaurants are closed. So today we could barely find a place to eat. Our auto-driver brought us to Dinner Bell, which sounded quite unappetizing. The interiors were quite flashy and over the top. In contrast, the glass table-tops were cracked in a corner and the place-mats looked worn and a little dirty. But in the end, food is what matters the most and the restaurant scored there. We ordered 2 of their Executive Lunch, which included a hearty portion of soup, a salad, papad, Hara-Bhara Kababs as appetizers, 2 veg dishes – Paneer Masala and Veg Jaipuri, Tandoori rotis and finally, an ice cream – all for just Rs.120 each. The food, though heavy, was quite good. The kababs and the veg dishes were the best.
