Drikung Kagyu Gompa, Rewalsar Mandi
The Drikung Kagyu Order was founded in 1179 by Kyobpa Jigten Sumg. It is currently headed by two Kyabgon Rinpoches – His Holiness Drikung Chetsang and His Holiness Drikung Chungtsang. While Kyabgon Chungtsang Rinpoche resides in Lhasa, Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche has established the Drikung Kagyu seat in exile in Dehra Dun.

Drikung Kagyu is one of the eight minor lineages of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.
Main entrance
Major lineages are those which were founded by the immediate disciples of Gampopa (1079-1153), while minor lineages were founded by disciples of Phakmo Drupa , one of the three main disciples of Gampopa.
Wall Fresco
Among the Kagyu lineages, Drikung Kagyu is one of four Kagyu lineages that continue to exist as independent institutions. The other three being, Karma Kagyu, Drukpa Kagyu and Taklung Kagyu.
