Gateway Retreat Sanchi

This is the first time that we have stayed at a state tourism run hotel(Gateway Retreat Sanchi). We were always a little unsure about how it would be. But in Sanchi there didn’t seem to be any other hotel worth sanchi hotels gateway retreat sanchi considering. Moreover the Australian couple we met in the train to Bhopal had mentioned that they stayed in MP Tourism hotels at most places and had really enjoyed them. So we figured it couldn’t be too bad!

And it definitely wasn’t! In fact the stay at MP Tourism’s Gateway Retreat Sanchi has been one of our most relaxing stays. The hotel is a little away from the chaos of the main market area but within walking distance as well. It has lovely lawns in the front with a small play area for kids – very family-friendly! Our double-room was very spacious and well-furnished with a vanity desk and mirror, a large cupboard and a seating area. The bathroom was functional with good fixtures.

Sanchi doesn’t really have any restaurants except for a couple of roadside eateries. So we ate all our meals at the hotel’s restaurant, which was quite good. Breakfast was included in the tariff and apart from tea/coffee we could choose from omelets, cutlets, poori-sabzi, etc.. On the first night there, we ordered a Biryani and Pulao and found them to be quite bland in taste. At our next meal, we requested the waiter to ensure that the food was better spiced. And since then the food was absolutely perfect!

More than the food, the service at the restaurant was quite impeccable. This was surprising ‘coz I didn’t have much expectations from a sarkari joint.
