Maneland Jungle Lodge, Sasan Gir

Maneland was listed in Lonely Planet as one of the recommended places to stay at. It sounded better than the state-govt-run Sinh Sadan Lodge and priced more reasonably than the other ‘resorts’ in the area. The price quoted to us included all meals although rooms without meals could also be negotiated. The hotel was a little difficult to find as it’s set away from the main road into the jungle and is reached via a narrow, dirt road.

When we pulled up to the hotel, I was quite skeptical as it looked a little deserted and rustic. But we were pleasantly surprised to see that the rooms, though basic, were neat and clean. The bathroom was nice too. The hotel lives up to its Jungle Lodge theme by having no TV or phone in the rooms and by being surrounded by the Gir forest on 3 sides . The rooms are set in cottage-style structures, which surround a small courtyard in the center. There were several khatiyas (cots) and swings for guests to relax in. We stayed 2 nights here and really enjoyed the experience.

The staff is quite friendly and efficient, and this is mainly because of their manager, Bharat bhai. He is an ever-smiling gentleman who runs a tight ship. He helped us with our safari bookings and ensured that we were well looked after. He showed us around the property and regaled us with tales of wildlife that sometimes stray into the property .

Food was really good. Our special requests were always catered to. And yes, their Chai is one of the best I’ve had in Gujarat.

This place is great for people who are looking for a bit of a jungle experience; not for those who need a luxurious, resort stay.

    Hi,

Some photos would be greatly appreciated. Also some info like AC if present, running hot water availablity, power back up to charge phones, batteries incase of power cuts..
Would also like to know the rates and if packages would be available.
Would they also arrange the safaris, guides etc?
