Kaziranga Pictures : Elephant Safari
Elephant safaris provide excellent photo opportunities since one can get really close to the animals.
Wild Buffalo on the way to the Elephant Station
The one-horned rhino was almost driven to extinction during the 19th century and it was by a concerted effort by the government of India and the Assam government that the conservation program for saving the one-horned rhino from extinction was a great success. Now two thirds of the world’s one-horn rhinos live at the Kaziranga.
Today’s safari was quite special – we had two baby elephants tagging along for the safari.

Feeding time
Every year the Forest Department and Tourism Department of Assam jointly host The Kaziranga Elephant Festival for the conservation and protection of Asiatic elephant.
Moving along
The park has three main types of vegetation – alluvial inundated grasslands, tropical wet evergreen forests and tropical semi-evergreen forests. The grasslands predominate in the west, with tall ‘elephant’ grasses on the higher ground and short grasses on the lower ground.
